I know a lot of people out there talk endlessly about how devastated Ten looked at the end of Doomsday over losing Rose, but I think something a lot of people forget to mention is how depleted of life Nine looked when he thought that Rose had been killed. He falls to his knees, without crying, without screaming. He just falls to his knees and stares at the ash left behind, fingers stroking the ash. He doesn’t care how loud the guard next to him is shouting at him, he doesn’t care how hard he’s being yanked around by him either. The look in his eyes, just…Just look up at his eyes and tell me that you don’t feel your heart shattering on the floor.
In the next scene, he’s completely numbed down. He’s thrown hard against a metal fence, and he has no reaction. His Sonic Screwdriver is forcibly removed from him, still no reaction. He has completely shut down, he’s empty inside. To him, nothing is worth saving anymore. He has lost the woman that he loved with all of his soul.
Also in the next minute after that, we see him not giving a damn how hurt the guards are, he doesn’t give a damn. For at this point, he couldn’t care less, because he thinks that they killed Rose. The only thing that matters to him is fighting in Rose’s name.
Christopher’s acting in everything mentioned above was some of his best work in Doctor Who and in his career. It hurts so much to know that Doctor Who lost his talent, to me, Eccleston will always be king when it comes to playing the Doctor.
This is just more proof of how much I really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston’s run as the Doctor. And I had one of my good friends tell me just recently that she had just finished the Christopher Eccleston season and wasn’t crazy about it. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut. GRRRRRRRRR
And that’s the theory. Nine hundred years, never seen one yet. But this would do me.
